Spontaneous Rupture: An Uncommon Complication of Ventral Hernia
نویسندگان
چکیده
BACKGROUND Literature is scarce about spontaneous rupture of hernia because spontaneous rupture of here is uncommon (1). Reported cases are complications of incisional hernias, recurrent inguinal hernia, and umbilical hernias. It is potentially life threatening (1) because the ensuing entrapment and tension on bowel mesentery may lead to vasovagal shock or strangulation. In addition to systemic problems and increased intra-abdominal pressure that lead to the herniation, the spontaneous rupture and evisceration is usually preceded by other factors such as inflammation that weaken the hernia covering (1, 2).We a report a case of spontaneous rupture of an incisional ventral hernia referred to the University of Ilorin teaching hospital.

Spontaneous rupture of an incisional hernia.
An incisional hernia is represented by the protrusion of hollow viscera from their physiological position through an area of weakness in a surgical scar. Spontaneous rupture of abdominal herniae is very rare and usually occurs in incisional herniae [1] with only very few cases reported in literature. An incisional hernia is a frequently observed complication after abdominal surgery, with an inc...
متن کاملSpontaneous rupture of umbilical hernia in an infant.
Umbilical hernia in infants is remarkable both for its frequent occurrence and the rarity of any dangerous complications. In a recent paper, Grace Woods (1953) emphasized these points and stated that no case of strangulation has been recorded. A dangerous complication that has been recorded is spontaneous rupture and a further case of this is reported here. This complication is exceedingly rare...

We present a 45-year-old female patient who developed diaphragmatic rupture and secondary hernia following a diaphragmatic resection for a diaphragmatic abnormality with spontaneous pneumothorax performed by endoscopic stapling in video-assisted thoracoscopic surgery (VATS). This complication can be avoided by careful direct repair of the diaphragmatic incision in addition to endoscopic stapling.
متن کاملA rare case of spontaneous inguinal faecal fistula as a complication of incarcerated Richter’s hernia with brief review of literature
BACKGROUND Richter's hernia has an early misleading presentation with tendency to strangulation due to common lack of obstructive symptoms which may lead to delay in diagnosis and hence increased mortality. Rarely inguinal Richter's hernia may present with an uncommon complication of spontaneous fistula. The development of spontaneous faecal fistula secondary to incarcerated inguinal hernias is...
